Summer 2008 update

During the past few months 105 West Architects have been
busy progressing our existing projects, managing and administering works on
site, securing planning and listed buildings permissions and bringing in new

designs for a number of exciting sites, both new build and refurbishment, as well as working on various domestic projects.

Domestic projects
The design approach to each domestic project is unique, being defined by the desires of the client and the context of the existing building. Aesthetic approaches employed have varied from the traditional to high end contemporary minimalism. The scope of the domestic works carried out have included the conversion of unused roof spaces, extensions to existing properties and the reconfiguration of internal arrangements.

New build house

Planning permission has been granted for a five storey building occupying the
end of a grade 2 listed terrace. The project required sensitive design involving
close liaison with the local authority planning, conservation and highways
departments. The new building provides contemporary family living spaces in two
large maisonettes within a seemingly traditional building.

Refurbishment and new build

An unsympathetic two storey structure between two villas has been replaced with
a four storey structure which references the adjacent traditional buildings. A
more contemporary appearance is created to the private rear gardens. The new
four storey link structure, combined with the complete refurbishment and
rearrangement of the existing villas, provides eight modern city centre flats.
Construction is due to complete in July of 2008 and is expected to be completed
under budget.

Refurbishment and new build
Planning permission has been granted for upgrading and extending an existing
residential block. The existing building detracts from a conservation area and
creates a external areas which, due to poor design and a lack of care, are
subject to antisocial activities. The proposals include re-cladding the
exterior of the existing building, creating two new residential units with
external terraces at roof level, the addition of six new build units adjacent
to the existing building and landscaping the external spaces.
