The property is a detached house in the Clifton conservation area of Bristol. The house, a former dairy, was partially remodelled and completely refurbished. The traditional character of the house was to be retained and enhanced. However, the extension was to be contrasting and contemporary in appearance.
The project was split into two phases, the second of which was a large extension to the side of the house, providing an art studio at ground floor level with two additional bedrooms at first floor level. The first floor floats over the driveway on a steel frame which also provides a trellis for climbing plants.
