Tellisford Cottage

A three bedroom mews house built in grounds of a substantial grade two listed Villa on Clifton Down Bristol. Historic records showed that the original structure was constructed in 1885 with various additions and amendments occurring throughout its life until the 1950’s. The building formed part of the historic boundary wall of the main villa and was noted within its listing. The building was in a dangerous state of disrepair and had been highlighted in the local Conservation Area Appraisal as a negative impact on the local area.

A sympathetic option was proposed and granted Planning and Listed permission late in 2012. The proposed scheme retained the characteristics of the existing structure, utilising a similar and simple palette of materials, and the structural form mirrored that of the earlier building. Contemporary detailing and the use of timber cladding for the first floor brought the building a fresh appearance.
